Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Yukiya Amano will visit Tehran to report on the implementation of the first step of the Geneva nuclear deal, Iranian Ambassador to IAEA Reza Najafi said on Jan. 17, Iran's Tasnim news portal reported.

On January 12, Iran and the Sextet of world powers finalized the agreement to start the implementation of the Geneva nuclear deal from January 20.

The agreement, which was reached among Iran and the five permanent members of the United Nations Security Council -- Russia, China, France, Great Britain, and the United States -- plus Germany in Geneva on November 24, 2013, is aimed at setting the stage for the full resolution of the West's decade-old standoff with Tehran over its nuclear energy program.

Najafi went on to say that the Amano`s report will include the measures that nuclear agency will do to inspect the implementation of the first step of the nuclear deal.

The report is scheduled to be examined during the IAEA's extraordinary board session on January 24, he added.

The nuclear agency's increased workload as a result of the Geneva nuclear deal will also be discussed at the session.

Under the Geneva deal, the six countries undertook to provide Iran with some sanctions relief in exchange for Iran agreeing to limit certain aspects of its nuclear activities during a six-month period. It was also agreed that no nuclear-related sanctions would be imposed on the country within the same time frame.
