The head of North Africa and Middle-East section of the French Foreign Ministry Jean-Francois Girault held a meeting with Iranian top diplomat Abolqasem Delfi in Tehran, Mehr News Agency reported on Jan.20.

According to the report, Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister for Western European Affairs Abolqasem Delfi discussed the ways of promoting bilateral relations and regional events with the French diplomat.

Mehr quoted Girault as saying that France has been keen to develop mutual relations with Iran since the latest presidential elections in Iran (held in June) in all spheres.

He also underlined that Paris supports strongly the nuclear accord achieved between Iran and P5+1 (in November 2013) and the starting of implementation of that (on Jan.20) is satisfying.

Girault said that a delegation composed of members of French senators and lawmakers will meet in the near future.

He didn't give any further information about the date or members' names.

During the meeting, Delfi also praised Iran-France's joint plan in fighting drug smuggling.
