Iranian foreign minister Mohammad Javad Zarif has arrived in Munich, Germany to participate in the 50th Munich Security Conference (MSC), Iran's IRNA news agency reported on Jan. 31.

The MSC begins on Jan. 31 and will continue for three days. Hosts, leaders and decision-makers from around the world will debate global security and foreign policy issues.

The Iranian foreign minister was officially invited to the conference by head of the Munich security meeting Wolfgang Ischinger.

This year, the world's biggest security gathering is to review the Syrian crisis and its security situation as well as the nuclear talks between Iran and the P5+1.

On Jan. 12, Iran and the five permanent members of the UN Security Council - Russia, China, France, Britain, and the U.S. - plus Germany agreed on Jan. 20 as the date to start implementing the interim nuclear deal that the two sides struck in Geneva on November 24, 2013.

On Jan. 20, the United States and the European Union suspended part of the sanctions against Iran after the IAEA confirmed earlier in the day that Iran had halted 20-percent uranium enrichment under the Geneva agreement.

The U.S. and its Western allies suspect Iran of developing a nuclear weapon - something that Iran denies. The Islamic Republic has on numerous occasions stated that it does not seek to develop nuclear weapons, using nuclear energy for medical research instead.
