Iranian Foreign Ministry has summoned Bahrain's charge d'affaires to protest "unfounded anti-Iran allegations" by the foreign minister of Bahrain, Iran's press TV reported on Feb. 13.
Iran Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Marziyeh Afkham said the Bahraini diplomat was summoned on Feb. 13.
Bahrain's Foreign Minister Shaikh Khalid Bin Ahmed Al Khalifa claimed in a tweet that the Iranian people are facing "injustice, deprivation of rights and starvation" in their country.
Afkham said, "Such remarks indicate the frustration of the Bahraini officials in dealing with the legitimate demands of the oppressed people of Bahrain."
She added that the Bahraini government had better meet the demands of the people of Bahrain instead of relying on foreign forces and resorting to security and tribal approaches.
The Iranian official's statements responded by the Bahrain in the same day.
Bahrain's foreign ministry summoned Iran's charge d'affaires to protest what it called "aggressive remarks" by the Iran's foreign ministry spokeswoman.
"The Ministry of Foreign Affairs considers the statements unacceptable and regards them as a blatant interference in the internal affairs of the Kingdom of Bahrain," Bahrain news agency reported on Feb. 14.
This came when the Undersecretary of Regional and GCC Affairs, Ambassador Hamad Ahmed Alamer, summoned the Chargé d'Affaires of the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the Bahrain, Mohammad Reza Babaei to ask him to convey Bahrain's protests on the "Iranian leadership hostile statements."
