By Fatih Karimov - Trend: Iranian Industry, Mines, and Trade minister Mohammad Reza Nematzadeh has called for boosting trade ties with Belarus, the Mehr News Agency reported on March 18.

During a meeting with Belarusian Foreign Minister Vladimir Makey in Tehran, Nematzadeh emphasized the need for manufacturing Iranian cars in Belarus.

He also expressed hope that Iranian contractors would be supported more by the Belarusian government.

In 2010, Iran inaugurated a large copper wire factory and the second phase of the Samand car assembly line in Belarus, Press TV reported.

Major exports of Belarus to Iran include potash fertilizers, synthetic fibers and synthetic fiber cords, while it imports cars, grape, automobile spare parts and tractors from Iran.

In October 2013, Belarus Deputy Foreign Minister Valentin Rybakov visited Iran. During his visit, he described Iran as a key partner, saying Belarusian officials see no limitation to the expansion of friendly ties with the Islamic Republic.

He highlighted Iran's status in the region and voiced his country's readiness to further develop relations with the Islamic Republic in all sectors.
