Iran’s Khamenei says nuclear achievements reinforce national confidence

Baku, Azerbaijan, April 9

By Fatih Karimov - Trend: Iranian Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei says nuclear achievements reinforce national confidence.

In a meeting with managers and experts of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran, which was held in Tehran today on the occasion of the National Nuclear Technology Day, Khamenei said nuclear achievements pave the way for other scientific achievements, leader.ir website reported on April 9.

Although the nuclear technology is used in industry, health, and agriculture sectors, its most important achievement has been boosting national confidence, he said.

No one has the right to bargain over nuclear achievements, he added.

Addressing all the nuclear scientists, Khamenei said, you should continue working with full strength and seriousness, because the country needs nuclear technologies.

The U.S. and its Western allies suspect Iran of developing a nuclear weapon - something that Iran denies. The Islamic Republic has on numerous occasions stated that it does not seek to develop nuclear weapons, using nuclear energy for medical research instead.

Under a six-month interim deal between Iran and the P5+1(the five permanent UN Security Council members plus Germany) which took effect on Jan. 20, the six major powers agreed to give Iran access to its $4.2 billion in revenues blocked overseas if the country fulfills the deal's terms which offer sanctions relief in exchange for steps on curbing the Iranian nuclear program.

The two sides intend to continue their talks to reach a final agreement to fully resolve the decade-old dispute over the Islamic Republic's nuclear energy program.
