By Fatih Karimov - Trend:

The Iranian administration has called domestic banks to announce people's savings in order to compare the figures to those, announced by the people willing to get subsidies.

The economy ministry and the Supreme Audit Court have separately called on the banks to announce people's savings in bank accounts, Iran's Mehr news agency reported on April 21.

Iranian administration had said not to get directly involved in estimating people's incomes, for various reasons. A large number of people who have applied for receiving cash subsidies have announced that their monthly income is near the minimum wage.

On April 20), Iranian MP Ezzatollah Yousefian Molla said some 40 percent of Iranian families, who have applied for receiving cash subsidies, claim that their monthly income is below 6 million rials (about $230).

The government expected 30 million people would not register for receiving cash subsidies, however a lot more did.

The subsidy registration website asks people to announce their monthly income if it is below 6 million rials, between 6 million and 10 million rials, between 10 million and 20 million rials, between 20 million and 25 million rials, or it is above 25 million rials.

People have announced their income this way in order to be sure that they will receive cash subsidies. Just 10 percent of families have not registered and therefore will not be receiving any cash subsidies.

Iran will begin the implementation of the second phase of the subsidy reform plan this week, Iranian president Hassan Rouhani said on April 19.

Earlier on April 15, Iran's minister of economic affairs and finance, Ali Tayyebnia said that a large number of people have not applied for receiving cash subsidies in the second phase of the subsidy reform plan.
