Iranian president Hassan Rouhani has criticized censorship in book publishing sector in the country.

"We should assign the supervisory of books to real experts and associations of writers," Rouhani said, Iranian State IRINN TV reported on April 29.

The president made the remarks during the inauguration ceremony of the 27th Tehran International Book Fair on April 29.

Iranian cultural activists do not need advice of "morality police", Rouhani said, adding that it is Iran's entire society which needs advises from the cultural activists.

"Iranian writers themselves respect society's values, culture and religion," he remarked.

Iran's morality police in towns and cities enforce Islamic rules including wearing of the Islamic dress codes, monitor citizens' activities; confiscate satellite dishes and "obscene" material.

The administration believes that should eliminates its intervene in all issues including book publishing and handed over it to specialists, Rouhani underlined.

People are the best supervisors, the president said, adding that they make decision to welcome or boycott any certain book.

All publications in Iran must be approved by the book supervisory board of the ministry of culture to ensure they comply with the Islamic republic's code of morality.
