Iran refutes Yemeni accusation about sending arms

Iran's Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Marzieh Afkhan on Saturday refuted accusation by Yemeni Foreign Minister Abu Bakr Al-Qirbi that Iran had been sending weapons into Yemen, IRNA reported.

Afkham said Iran has always been a friend of Yemen and supports unity and stability in the country.

In an interview with London-based pan-Arabic daily al-Quds al-Arabi, Yemeni foreign minister had said he had evidence showing Iran is intervening in Yemen's internal affairs through sending weapons to his country.

Abu Bakr Al-Qirbi said Yemen is waiting for an upcoming visit to Sana'a by Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdolahian to see what is Iran's real approach towards Yemen after the formation of a new government in Iran under President Hassan Rouhani.

Amir-Abdollahian is expected to visit Sana'a to pursue the fate of abducted Iranian diplomat, Nourahmad Nikbakht. But the time of the visit has not been set yet.

Nourahmad Nikbakht was kidnapped in Yemen more than a year ago by extremist militants in the country.
