The Kuwaiti emir will pay an official visit to Iran on June 1 at the invitation of Iranian president Hassan Rouhani.

Heading a high-ranking delegation, Sheikh Sabah al-Ahmad al-Jaber al-Sabah will meet with Iranian senior officials to discus mutual ties during the visit, Iran's ISNA news agency reported on May 19.

The trip will be the first visit of Sheikh Sabah to Tehran since he took office in January 2006.

Iranian deputy foreign minister for Arab and African Affairs, Hossein Amir Abdollahian passed on the invitation message from Rouhani for Kuwait's emir during his visit to the Gulf state last April.

Kuwait is a member of the Gulf Cooperation Council that has excellent, historical and developing relations with Iran.

In a visit to Kuwait last year, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif met his Kuwaiti counterpart Sheikh Sabah Khalid al-Hamad al-Sabah and two sides discussed ways to boost mutual relations in all fields.
