Iran's foreign ministry spokeswoman Marzieh Afkham has condemned the terrorist act in Urumqi, Xinjiang region, China, which killed and wounded dozens of people shopping in the market.

Afkham expressed outrage at the terrorist operation and extremism targeting innocent people at any point in the world, Iran's IRNA news agency reported on May 22.

She deplored that the terrorist groups have hidden themselves under the name of Islam and said that terrorism has nothing to do with the tenets of Islam.

Afkham voiced solidarity of the Iranian nation and government with the Chinese nation and government especially the families of the victims.

Thirty-one people were killed and more than 90 injured in an attack on a busy street market in Xinjiang's capital Urumqi on May 22.

Terrorists threw explosives to the crowded market from a vehicle.
