Iran's Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif believes the new world order advocated by the United States following the collapse of the Soviet Union in the 1990's was nothing but an illusion.

"Washington's efforts in this regard cost the country a lot," Zarif said, Iran's Fars News Agency reported on May 26.

Zarif also highlighted the role played by media in the current state of affairs worldwide.

He further urged more efforts to break up the media monopoly by the West.

Iranian foreign minister went on to note that the country is fighting with Zionists' propaganda aimed at boosting Islamophobia and Iranophobia.

"Iran's approach in this regard has disturbed Benjamin Netanyahu's peace of mind," he explained.

He also called on Islamic countries to focus on their commonalities and beware of efforts to sow discord among them.

Zarif also urged a media campaign to counter the inaccurate image of Muslims portrayed around the world.

Zarif made the remark on the second day of the 7th General Assembly of Islamic Radio and Television Union in Tehran.
