The chairman of Iran's Assembly of Experts, Ayatollah Mohammad Reza Mahdavi Kani has been hospitalized after suffering a heart attack on June 4.
The 83-year-old conservative politician was in coma and his health condition was assessed as critical, Iran's Fars news agency reported.
Senior Iranian officials including president Hassan Rouhani and Supreme Leader's Chief of Staff Mohammad Mohammadi Golpayegani visited Mahdavi Kani in Tehran's Bahman Hospital.
Officials have called on Iranians to pray for his health, according to the Iranian media outlets.
The Assembly of Experts is a deliberative body of Mujtahids (Islamic theologians) which is tasked with appointing and removing Iran's supreme leader and supervising his activities.
