Iranian President Hassan Rouhani called on China to play a more active role in the nuclear negotiations between Tehran and the P5+1 group of countries.

He went on to note that Tehran invites Beijing to try more to help the two sides reach a comprehensive agreement, Iran's ISNA News Agency reported on June 23.

"Iran will never forget China's valuable cooperation when Tehran came under attack and was hit by western sanctions," Rouhani said.

"Increasing ties with China are important for us," he said, adding that the two countries can reach an agreement over expansion of relations during the upcoming visit of Chinese president to Tehran.

"Iran is ready to cooperate with China in construction of giant oil refineries," he added.

Rouhani made the remarks at a ceremony dedicated to accepting the Letter of credence of China's new ambassador to Tehran, Pang Sen.

Sen, for his part, said that Beijing is willing to expand ties with Iran in the fields of IT, finance, and energy.

He went on to note that his country will always support Iran's right to peaceful nuclear program.

"We are against unilateral sanctions," Sen said.

He further promised that his country will support Iran's stances during the next round of nuclear negotiations between Tehran and the P5+1 group of countries.
