Five countries’ exports account for 72 percent of Iran’s total imports

The United Arab Emirates, China, India, Turkey, and South Korea are the main exporters of goods to Iran in the first two months of the current Iranian calendar year (March 21 - May 20).

The total exports of these five countries accounted for 72 percent of Iran's total imports in the mentioned two months, Iran's ISNA News Agency reported on July 8.

According to Iran's Customs Administration, the United Arab Emirates was the biggest export of goods to Iran. The country exported over 1.95 tons of goods worth $2.225 billion to Iran in the two-month period, which is 110 percent more than this period last year. The figure accounts for 29 percent of Iran's total imports in the mentioned time span.

China's exports also accounted for 21 percent of Iran' total imports. Beijing exported 691,000 tons of goods worth $11.613 to Tehran in the mentioned period, which is 69 percent more than same time span last year.

Iran imported over 719,000 tons of goods worth $693 million from India which is 21 percent more than previous year. India's exports to Iran accounted for 9 percent of Tehran's total imports.

Neighboring Turkey also exported 424,000 tons of goods worth $542 million, which accounts for 7 percent of Iran's total imports. The figures also show a 10.5-percent increase in Ankara's exports to Tehran compared to the first two months of the last Iranian calendar year.

South Korea exported 160,000 tons of goods worth $459 million, which is 16 percent less than the previous year. However, South Korea's exports to Iran accounted for 6 percent of Iran's total imports.

Iran's foreign trade amounted to $24.245 billion in the first three months of the current Iranian calendar year (March 21 - June 20), Iran's Fars News Agency reported. Iran Customs Administration's latest report suggests that the figure shows a 27 percent increase compared to the same period of time last year. Iran's non-oil exports accounted for $11.859 billion of the mentioned amount. The figure is 20.53 percent more than the same period the previous year.

The country also imported $12.386 billion worth of goods in the spring, which is 35.63 percent more than last year.

According to Iran Customs Administration, the country's total non-oil exports to foreign countries (excluding gas condensates) stood at $31.332 billion in the previous year (which ended on March 20), while the country's total imports amounted to $50.818 billion.

The figures mark annual trade balance of $19.486 billion dollars for Iran.

Iran's annual trade turnover is projected to reach $160 billion by the end of the fifth five-year development plan in March 2016.
