Some 158,753 divorces have been registered in Iran in the 12-month period which ended on March 21.

The figure is 4.6 percent more than its preceding year, Iran's Mehr News Agency reported on July 15.

The divorce rate in Iran has been on the rise in the past five years.

Official statistics show that the country's divorce rate increased by 17, 10, 7, 8.4, and 4.6 percent respectively in the past five years.

The highest rate of divorce has been recorded in Tehran and Alborz province, while Yazd, and Sistan and Baluchestan provinces registered the lowest rates.

Some 757,197 marriages were also registered in Iran in the mentioned 12-month period, which is 4.4 percent less than previous year.
