Iranian president Hassan Rouhani joined the Quds Day rallies in Tehran.

People in large groups of tens of thousands in Tehran and more than 700 cities started rallies in morning, carrying placards and chanting slogans against Israel and the US, Iran's media outlets reported on July 25.

The demonstrators burn Israeli flags during the rallies.

Back in 1979, the last Friday of the holy month of Ramadan was designated by the late founder of the Islamic Republic, Ayatollah Khomeini, as Quds Day to mobilize Muslims worldwide in support of Palestinians and against Israel.

Al-Quds is the Arabic name for Jerusalem.

On July 22, Hassan Rouhani called for a massive turnout in the demonstrations to express solidarity with the Palestinian people.

"The larger the turnout on this year's Quds Day, the greater the expression of support for the oppressed people of Palestine," Rouhani said.

In addition to Iran, the Quds Day is held in some other countries including some European countries.
