Iran’s private sector inaugurates wind farm

By Fatih Karimov - Trend: Iran's private sector has inaugurated a wind farm with a generation capacity of 20 megawatts.

The wind farm has been established in Takestan region, north of the country,Iran's Fars news agency reported on Aug. 11.

The wind farm will save 315.36 million liters of diesel fuel.

Iran plans to generate 5,000 megawatts of electricity using renewable sources of energy over the course of five years.

Power generation capacity in Iran has grown by 7 percent annually during the past 10 years. The figure has averaged 3.5 percent in the world.

Iran is currently the biggest electricity producer in the Middle East.

Iran's total electricity generation currently stands at 70,000 megawatts.

Iran currently trades power with Turkey,Armenia, Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan,Pakistan, Afghanistan, Syria, and Iraq.

Iran seeks to become a major regional exporter of electricity and has attracted more than $1.1 billion in investments for the construction of three new power plants.
