By Umid Niayesh - Trend:

Iranian envoy to the United Nations (UN), has warned about consequences of "Israel's violation of its air space" in a letter addressed to UN officials.

Iran's ambassador and caretaker of Islamic Republic's Permanent Representative Office in the UN, Hossein Dehqani has condemned the act of "violating air space of Iran by an Israeli drone, aimed at spying on Natanz nuclear facilities," the country's official IRNA news agency reported Aug 29.

"This move which took place after repeated threats of Israeli officials against Iran, is considered obvious violation of the territorial integrity and national legitimacy of the Islamic Republic, and is in direct contrast against the international rules and regulations and the text of the UN Charter," the letter reads.

The Iranian official also said that the act should be condemned by the international community, and especially by the UN Security Council.

Iran preserves its right for any defensive move to safeguard its territorial integrity regarding such intriguing moves, he added.

Iranian media outlets reported that the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) downed an Israeli drone over Iran's air space on Aug. 23.

"The downed aircraft was of the stealth, radar-evasive type and it intended to penetrate the off-limit nuclear area in Natanz... but was targeted by a ground-to-air missile before it managed to enter the area," the IRGC said.

The Israeli military says it will not comment on foreign reports.
