Iran unveiled two new home-made radar systems on the occasion of the Iranian Air Defense Day.

The Keyhan and Arash 2 radar systems were unveiled during a ceremony attended by Brigadier General Farzad Esmaili, commander of Khatam al-Anbia Air Defense Base on Sept. 1, Iran's Tasnim news agency reported.

Keyhan is a 2-dimensional long-range radar, capable of discovering large number of aerial targets including stealth bombers, Esmaili said.

He added that the Radar uses hybrid frequencies, and its superiority to the previous model- Shahab Radar is that it is tactical and mobile.

The Arash 2 radar system is capable of monitoring targets within the range of 100,000 feet, with coverage capacity 360 degree, the commander said.

The radar system enjoys advanced technologies and enables the air defense units to transfer data very rapidly, Esmaili added.

Iranian media outlets report that Iran has made great achievements in its defense sector and attained self-sufficiency in producing essential military equipment and systems in recent years.

Since 1992, Iran has manufactured its own tanks, armored personnel carriers, missiles, radars, boats, submarines and fighter planes. Iran also unveiled its first domestically-manufactured long-range Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) in 2010.
