Ali Larijani the speaker of Iran's parliament and Egypt's president Hosny Mubarak held a rare two-hour face-to-face meeting in Cairo on Sunday.
Egypt and Iran have not had full diplomatic ties since the Islamic Revolution of 1979 in Tehran.
Speaking after the meeting, Larijani said discussion on relations between the two countries had been "constructive." He and Mubarak had also touched on regional matters of mutual concern, Larijani said.
Larijani travelled to Cairo for a meeting of the parliamentary union of the Organization of the Islamic Conference member states.
