Helicopter crash kills three army personnel in northern Yemen

At least three military personnel were killed and seven injured after their helicopter crashed in the restive province of Saada in north-western Yemen, a military source said, dpa reported.

The source told the German Press Agency dpa that the chopper crashed immediately after it took off from a military airport in Saada, some 240 kilometres north-west of the capital, Sana'a.

A technical fault was blamed for the crash, according to the source, who spoke on condition of anonymity.

Saada has been the scene of fierce battles between the army and Shiite rebels in the past five-and-a-half-years.

The two sides agreed on a ceasefire that took effect at midnight Friday, and still holds.
