Libyan leader Moamer Gaddafi called during an address Thursday in Benghazi for a jihad against Switzerland, over the country's vote in November to ban new construction of minarets on mosques in the Alpine country.
He condemned the referendum in which Swiss voters endorsed the policy to ban minarets, which are used to issue the prayer call five times a day to Muslim faithful, DPA reporterd.
Gaddafi described the Swiss as unbelieving and apostate.
The Swiss foreign minister would not comment late Thursday.
