Employees of a Syrian satellite broadcaster based in Dubai say they have received threats from Syrian government agents, the station's owner said Monday, possibly because of reporting on recent violence in the Syrian city of Daraa.
Ghassan Abud, who owns the Orient TV station, told the Al Arabiya broadcaster that his employees had received threats by telephone. They were told that, if they did not stop working for the broadcaster, their family in Syria would be abducted, dpa reported.
Three employees quit after receiving the calls.
Abud said he believes the calls are linked to his station's reporting on Daraa, which has been quoting Syrian opposition members.
