Mauritanian authorities have arrested Abdullah al-Senussi, the chief of the intelligence service in the ousted regime of Libya's slain leader Moamer Gaddafi, they announced Saturday dpa reproted

Al-Senussi was arrested at the Nouakchott airport upon his arrival aboard a flight from Morocco, Mauritanian security authorities said in a statement.

They added that the former Libyan official was travelling on a fake Malian passport.

It was not immediately clear whether Mauritania would hand al-Senussi over to Libya.

In June 2011, the International Criminal Court in The Hague indicted al-Senussi for crimes against humanity, for his role in the Gaddafi regime's use of force to suppress an uprising that began four months earlier.

Al-Senussi disappeared after an armed revolt ended Gaddafi's 42-year rule last August.
