Libya's National Transitional Council (NTC) Chairman Mustafa Abdul Jalil has voiced support to the continuity of the work of the transitional government headed by interim Prime Minister Abdel Rahim el-Keeb, local media reported Monday.
Jalil told a press conference held after a NTC meeting on Sunday in the capital Tripoli that the interest of the NTC is to achieve stability and state-building in this delicate period, Xinhua reported.
Jalil also said the government should guarantee the success of the electoral process for the National Conference.
Last Thursday, NTC spokesman Mohamed Alhraizi said that the NTC is willing to support and cooperate with el-Keeb's government, in response to rumors that the ruling council and the interim government are at odds.
Despite complaints about the interim government's performance, the NTC has never been the opponent of the government, but is supportive and eager to offer advice for the government, Alhraizi said.
The NTC has been trying to give the government opportunities to change its way of work and address problems in the country, Alhraizi said, adding that the council held a meeting last Tuesday night with the interim prime minister and some other ministers and officials, and pledged support for the government's plans to deal with issues such as security.
The spokesman also said Libya would hold the parliamentary elections as scheduled, and the NTC would work to ensure security in the country.
