Free Syrian Army promises to release the detained Iranians in exchange for a cessation by government forces of shelling cities in the country, Anadolu news agency reported on Tuesday referring to one of the members of the Army, who wished to remain anonymous.
According to the serviceman, the Iranian citizens are in fact snipers, not pilgrims, as stated by the Iranian authorities. He also noted that three of the 48 Iranian citizens were killed in fire by soldiers of the Free Syrian Army.
On August 4, some 48 Iranian nationals were kidnapped on the road leading from Damascus international airport to the Syrian capital. The bus, which the Iranians were in, was stopped on the outskirts of the capital at the checkpoint of militants. Video posted at YouTube on Sunday claims that the Iranians are not really pilgrims but members of the IRGC, who arrived in Syria with the intelligence mission. Iran's Foreign Ministry on Monday denied reports that the Iranians taken hostage are the servicemen of the IRGC.
