At least 14 Yemeni soldiers were killed when a gun and car bomb attack at a government building complex in the southern port city of Aden, the Defence Ministry said, dpa reported.
A group of armed gunmen attacked guards at the entrance to the state television adjacent to a building used by the intelligence service, and drop a bomb-laden car through the gate before detonating it, the ministry said on its website.
An unspecified number of injured people were being treated at the scene.
The government, backed by the United States, has since April been pursuing a wide-scale military crackdown on insurgents with suspected links to al-Qaeda.
President Abd Rabu Mansour Hadi, who took office in February, has vowed to continue fighting al-Qaeda operatives in the Arabian Peninsula country.
