The US ambassador to Libya, Christopher Stevens, has died from smoke inhalation in an attack on the US consulate in the eastern Libyan city of Benghazi, Al Jazeera reported.
In addition, three other employees of the consulate were killed.
Earlier it was reported that armed men carrying out arson at the U.S. consulate in Benghazi in eastern Libya, fired at the building from a grenade launcher.
The unknown assailants were protesting at the forthcoming U.S. film which according to some Muslims, defames the prophet Muhammad, fired several shots into the air in front of the consulate, then entered the building and carried out the arson attached on Tuesday.
After that, the Consulate was fired from the grenade launchers from a nearby farm, the Interior Ministry said.
A protest against the release of the film was held in Egypt yesterday, where several thousand people surrounded the U.S. office chanting anti-American slogans and burned the national flag in front of the U.S. Embassy. The protesters hoisted a black flag with the words of the main Islamic commandments: 'There is no God but Allah and Mohammed - his prophet', on one of the pillars near the embassy.
