One killed, 25 wounded in Lebanon clashes over anti-Islam film

At least one person was killed and 25 wounded Friday when protestors angered by an anti-Islam film made in the US clashed with police in the northern Lebanon city of Tripoli, reported dpa.

The protesters vandalized a KFC restaurant in the port city before setting it on fire, the official National News Agency (NNA) reported.

The security forces fired in the air to break up the protesters, the NNA said.

A witness in the area told dpa that some of the protesters were shouting: "We don't want the pope" and "No more insults (to Islam)."

The violence comes as Pope Benedict XVI began a three-day visit to Lebanon.

The low-budget film, Innocence of Muslims, portrays the Muslim prophet Mohammed as a womanizer and a paedophile.

The film sparked massive protests across the Middle East, and triggered attacks on the US diplomatic missions in Libya, Egypt and Yemen.
