Jordanians demonstrate, call for release of relatives jailed in Israel

Relatives of Jordanians jailed in Israel held a sit-in Saturday, calling on the government to exert efforts to secure their release, Xinhua reported.

During the sit-in near the headquarters of the country's professional associations, demonstrators called for the immediate release of Jordanian prisoners in Israel, saying they receive inhumane treatment at the Israeli jails.

Several trade unionists took part in the sit-in, where demonstrators held banners and pictures of the Jordanian prisoners.

"The government should place the issue of Jordanians jailed abroad on top of its priorities," the demonstrators chanted, slamming the government's silence over the issue.

According to Amman-based Arab Organisation for Human Rights, there are 27 Jordanian prisoners in Israel.
