Report: Iraq bombings kill two, injure six

At least two people were killed and six injured Saturday in two separate bomb blasts in central Iraq, said security officials dpa reported.

A car bomb exploded in the city of Baquba, some 55 kilometres north-east of the capital, Baghdad, leaving two civilians dead and three injured, added the officials, according to the Iraqi website Alsumaria News.

Three army soldiers were meanwhile injured when a bomb targeted their patrol vehicle north of Baquba, according to the report.

Violence in Iraq has dropped dramatically in recent years, but near-daily attacks still take place amid a festering political crisis stemming from feuds between the country's Sunni Muslim politicians and Shiite Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki.

Thousands of Sunnis Friday took to the streets in western and northern Iraq to protest what they said was al-Maliki's marginalization of the formerly dominant Sunni minority.

The protesters also demanded the repeal of an anti-terrorism law they claim targets mainly Sunnis.
