Syrian peace envoy Lakhdar Brahimi and top Russian and US diplomats on Friday called for a quick political solution to end the Syrian conflict, after a meeting which apparently produced no concrete proposals, reported dpa.
"We are all very, very deeply aware of the immense suffering of the Syrian people, which has gone on for far too long," Brahimi said after meeting Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov and US Deputy Secretary of State William Burns in Geneva.
"And we all stressed the need for a speedy end to the bloodshed, destruction and all forms of violence in Syria," the UN-Arab envoy added.
He said ideas about a political transition were put forward by Bogdanov and Burns, but that the results of the meeting did not go beyond his statements.
