Morsi departs for Germany amid unrest in Egypt

Egyptian President Mohammed Morsi Wednesday left Cairo for a shortened visit to Germany, after six days of deadly unrest in Egypt, dpa reported.

Morsi will discuss with German Chancellor Angela Merkel possible support for an ailing Egyptian economy and the current political situation in Egypt, reported local media.

He had originally planned to spend three days on a visit that was also to have taken him to France.

However, the unrest in the country prompted the Islamist president to shorten his visit to Germany to a few hours and cancel the trip to France.
