Qatar is to hand over the Syrian embassy in the capital Doha to the opposition Syrian National Coalition, the group said Wednesday, dpa reported.
"Qatar has decided to hand over the Syrian embassy building to Mr Nizar al-Haraki after his appointment as ambassador to Doha for the National Coalition of Syrian Revolutionary and opposition Forces," the coalition said.
Al-Haraki, 51, hails from the Daraa in southern Syria, the cradle of the uprising against the government of President Bashar al-Assad that began in March 2011.
"The flag of the revolution will be raised above the embassy building," said the coalition. It did not specify a date for the handover.
The coalition that was formed in November has been recognized by many countries including Qatar.
