Russian Foreign Ministry: Situation in Syria deteriorating every day

The situation in Syria is deteriorating every day, and "internal conflict is not diminished," Russian Foreign Ministry official representative Alexander Lukashevich said on Thursday at a briefing in Moscow, RIA Novosti reported.

He said today it is important that conflicting parties supported the dialogue.

Lukashevich supported efforts by UN Special Envoy Lakhdar Brahimi on Syria to resolve the conflict and added that "Russia will continue efficient work with all parties to the conflict".

Anti-government protests have continued in Syria for more than a year and half. According to the UN, the total number of victims of the conflict in Syria exceeds 70,000. More than 230,000 have become refugees with around three million in need of humanitarian assistance. Syrian authorities say they oppose the well-armed militants.
