Syrian Foreign Minister Walid Muallem will arrive in Moscow to participate in talks on February 25, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Gennady Gatilov said today.
"The Syrian Foreign Minister is expected to visit Moscow on February 25," he said to RIA Novosti at a conference.
The diplomat said that success will be the result of the efforts of all concerned parties: firstly, the consolidated efforts of external actors, the countries which could make an impact on both sides and the government and the opposition.
"If we can do this together, one may hope the political settlement process will advance," he said.
Anti-government protests have continued in Syria for more than a year and half. According to the UN, the total number of victims of the conflict in Syria exceeds 70,000. More than 230,000 have become refugees with around three million in need of humanitarian assistance. Syrian authorities say they oppose the well-armed militants.
