Tunisian Prime Minister Hamadi Jebali announced his resignation Tuesday after failing to win the support of his party for an interim government of technocrats, DPA reported.
"I promised to present my resignation in the event my initiative failed. It's what I did during my meeting with the president," he told reporters after a meeting with President Moncef Marzouki.
Jebali is the moderate face of the ruling Islamist party Ennahda. He had been prime minister since December 2011.
