Egyptian army helicopters Tuesday fired rockets at suspected militant targets in three villages near the country's border with Israel and the Palestinian Gaza Strip, security officials said, dpa reported.
Witnesses told dpa that the Apache helicopters fired on the Bedouin villages of al-Touma, al-Jimaei and al-Mahdiya, all on the Sinai Peninsula. There were no reported casualties.
The rugged desert peninsula has seen an upsurge in attacks by Islamist militants since the Egyptian military ousted Islamist president Mohammed Morsi in early July.
