The executive committee of the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) will deliberate on the elimination of chemical weapons arsenals in Syria, the organization announced Friday from its headquarters in The Hague, dpa reported.
The meeting of the 41 committee members is to take place on Sunday to decide on matters of procedure. Syria has to provide the organization a complete inventory of its chemical weapons stockpiles and production facilities.
OPCW inspectors verify Syria's information on location and will support the country in securing the weapons and facilities until their destruction. A more exact schedule was not yet known.
Syria is officially to become the 190th member state of the organization on October 14, 2013. The OPCW is the responsible body for the implementation and supervision of the international Chemical Weapons Convention.
