A military plane crashed in the southern Egyptian city of Luxor on Sunday, due to technical failure, an army spokesman said, dpa reported.
The aircraft was being used in a training exercise, Colonel Ahmed Ali said. He gave no details of casualties and said the situation was being monitored.
Witnesses said the crew parachuted from the plane before it hit the ground. Some houses near the crash site caught fire, they added.
