French Prime Minister Jean-Marc Ayrault on Sunday began a three-day visit to Algeria to boost bilateral economic cooperation between the two Mediterranean countries, Xinhua reported.

Ayrault, who led a top official delegation including nine ministers, MPs and entrepreneurs, was welcomed at Houari Boumediene International Airport of Algiers by his Algerian counterpart Abdelmalek Sellal.

The two prime ministers will co-chair the first meeting of the Algerian-French High-Level Intergovernmental Committee, which was recommended during the visit of French President to Algeria in December 2012, in a bid to set up new instance of regular dialogue.

Ayrault will also visit a cement plant of French giant Lafarge installed in the province of Mascara, 360 km western Algiers, as well as the car assembly plant of French automaker Renault, in the province of Oran, 430 km western Algiers.

A meeting of French and Algerian entrepreneurs will be held as part of the visit. And a couple of partnership agreements and contracts in various areas of cooperation are expected to sign between the two countries.

Figures of the Algerian Customs show that France was the second largest supplier of Algeria after China with 6.1 billion U.S. dollars in 2012.
