A car bomb exploded Tuesday near a Hezbollah office in eastern Lebanon, according to Hezbollah sources, dpa reported.

They said that there were no casualties, but witnesses told dpa that there had been injuries.

The area was swiftly cordoned off by Hezbollah security officials.

Ambulances were seen rushing to the scene of the blast in Laboieh, near Baalbek, a stronghold of the Shiite Islamist movement.

Hezbollah's south Beirut stronghold has seen several bombings in recent months, including an attack on the Iranian embassy in November, which killed 25 people.

Sunni Islamist groups have threatened Hezbollah with retaliation for its participation in the conflict in neighbouring Syria, alongside the forces of President Bashar al-Assad.
