Bahraini authorities have released opposition Shiite leader Ali Salman and imposed a travel ban on him for allegedly inciting sectarian hate in the Sunni-ruled kingdom, said prosecutors Sunday.

Salman, who heads the Shiite al-Wefaq bloc, Bahrain's main opposition group, was released on bail late Saturday after he was probed on charges of inciting sectarian hate in a recent mosque sermon. He had been arrested Saturday, dpa reported.

Al-Wefaq led the 2011 protests demanding political reform and greater freedoms in Bahrain.

A crackdown on opposition rallies left around 100 people dead, according to the opposition.
