Two new cases of Middle East Respiratory Syndrome Corona-Virus (MERS-CoV) have been detected in Jordan, the nation's Health Ministry revealed, Press TV reported.
The victims are reportedly a Saudi male and his Jordanian doctor that was treating him.
The latest cases, reported on Thursday, brought the total number of Jordanians diagnosed with the severe respiratory disease since 2012 to seven, according to state news agency, Petra.
Petra further cited Health Ministry official, Mohammad Abdallat, as saying that the 25-year-old Saudi man was being treated at a private hospital in the capital, Amman.
"The Jordanian medic, 28, got infected while he was treating the Saudi patient. He is in a stable condition," said Abdallat, who heads the ministry's communicable diseases unit.
MERS first emerged in 2012 and is mostly focused on Saudi Arabia, where it has killed 107 people so far, according to health officials in the Persian Gulf kingdom.
This is while Saudi health officials announced on Wednesday that the number of individuals diagnosed with the disease had climbed to 361.
MERS is a cousin of SARS. The virus, which causes coughing, fever and pneumonia, does not appear to be as contagious as SARS, which killed some 800 people in a 2003 epidemic.
In addition to Saudi Arabia, MERS has been reported in Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, France, Germany, Italy, Tunisia and Britain.
