A Lebanese Army soldier died early Tuesday from wounds sustained in an overnight shooting attack, a security source told The Daily Star.
The source said an unknown assailant on a motorcycle opened fire at soldier Ali Abdul-Nasser Abdul-Wahid near the old Serail building in the northern city of Tripoli.
Abdul-Wahid was rushed in critical condition to the Islamic Hospital after the 10 p.m. shooting but succumbed to his wounds early Tuesday.
Tripoli has been calm since a security plan was put in place in April to restore stability to Lebanon's second-largest city following at least 20 rounds of sectarian fighting linked to the war in neighboring Syria.
