A number of Syrian refugees will return to their country pending the approval of the authorities in Damascus, An Nahar newspaper reported on Thursday.

The newspaper said that Lebanese army trucks transported on Wednesday night around 300 refugees to Ras Baalbek to prepare their deportation to their country, Naharnet reported.

These refugees were enlisted on deportation lists after the villages they hailed from became safe.

The convoy taking them back to their country will reportedly pass through the Syrian Jousiyeh border crossing.

Hosting more than 1.1 million Syrians fleeing their country's three-year war, Lebanon is home to the highest number of Syrian refugees in the region, and also to the highest refugee population per capita in the world.

The population in the northeastern town of Arsal alone has almost tripled because of the presence of Syrian refugees and rebels.
