Four Iraqi soldiers and policemen were killed when defusing a bomb in a suburb of Iraq's capital Baghdad on Thursday evening, an Interior Ministry source said, Xinhua reported.

The incident happened when security members were attempting to defuse a roadside bomb in Madain area, some 20 km south of Baghdad. The failed attempt led to an explosion and wounded six others, the source told Xinhua on condition of anonymity.

Security has been beefed up since Tuesday's coordinated attacks which killed dozens across the country ahead of an Arab Summit slated for the end of this month.

Key routes were cut and more security checkpoints were seen on Baghdad streets, snarling the already choking traffic.

The Arab Summit is the first to be held in Baghdad since former leader Saddam Hussein invaded Kuwait in 1990. And the nascent Shia- led government is keen to make it a success, lavishing hundreds of millions of dollars on renovation and plantation, according to local press.
