Six killed in Iraq as Baghdad prepares to host Iran nuclear talks

Six people were killed and several wounded in four separate attacks in Iraq on Tuesday, hours before Baghdad was to host nuclear talks between Iran and six world powers, dpa reported.

In Baqouba, 57 kilometres north-west of the capital Baghdad, a woman and two children were killed when gunmen blew up their house, security sources told dpa. Three people were wounded in a similar attack on another house in the city.

In the northern city of Mosul, one civilian was killed and two wounded when a booby-trapped car exploded, according to police sources.

In the Kirkuk area, also in the north, a soldier was reported killed and two wounded in a 45-minute firefight after men attacked an army checkpoint with machine guns and grenades.

Media reports said that 15,000 security forces are to be deployed in Baghdad to secure Wednesday's international nuclear talks.

The Sabah newspaper quoted government spokesman Ali Dabbagh as saying that the security measures "will have no impact on citizens' lives."
