Motorcycle bomb blasts kill 6, injure 45 in central Iraqi city

Three motorcycle bomb explosions have on Friday killed six people and injured 45 others in central Iraq's Balad city, Xinhua reported quoting local police official as said.

The three blasts took place in three separate locations in Balad city, 80 km from the capital Baghdad, including a police station, the source told Xinhua via telephone on condition of anonymity.

The parking motorcycles, with bombs attached to them, were seemingly detonated by remote controller, said the source. The official said the death toll might rise later as many of the injured are in serious conditions.

No one has so far claimed responsibility of the attacks and investigations are underway, said the police source.

Balad, located in the Sunnie-dominated province of Salah ad Din, has been witnessing many violent incidents since the U.S. invasion in 2003.
